Behind the Curtain: What Happened? What's Next? is the second event in MassINC and CommonWealth Magazine's Open Minds series. Local and national experts will explore the outcomes of the national and state-wide elections and what these imply for the future.

Behind the Curtain is the first set of events in MassINC and CommonWealth magazine's Open Minds event series with programs that challenge your perspective. With an array of guests in media, politics, and academia, Behind the Curtain presents serious subjects in clever, interesting ways.

The Gateway Cities Innovation Institute is the culmination of a five-year effort to focus attention on the critical role of the Commonwealth’s midsize cities as both engines of regional economic growth and escalators to the middle class for many generations of Bay State families.

CommonWealth magazine presents an issues debate in Massachusetts 4th Congressional District: “The American Dream: Jobs, the economy, and the future of the middle class” will feature Republican Sean Bielat and Democrat Joseph Kennedy III.

A special online forum will preview a Gateway Cities Creative Placemaking policy agenda laid out in a new MassINC report, "Building Vibrancy: Creative Placemaking Strategies for Gateway City Growth and Renewal," scheduled for release August 2nd.

This event is hosted by the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission and is the lastest in a series of regional transportation finance discussions Research Director Ben Forman has participated in around the state.

This daylong event will be held at the UMass Lowell Conference Center on April 11th beginning at 9 AM, and will advance creative placemaking strategies in the Gateway Cities.

Plenary sessions with local, state and national experts; and practical workshops will explore best practices and common challenges in bringing art and culture-based investments to fruition.
